Not only is it tricky figuring out how to source the written content that should go on a legal page, but as a designer you’ll probably also end up with some clients that don’t necessarily understand the importance of having legal pages in the first place.
So, keep reading to learn more about why I use and recommend a Termageddon privacy policy for all of my web design clients (and myself!). Plus, I’ll share a few tips on how I present the importance of legal pages to my clients.

What is a privacy policy for a website?
A privacy policy for a website is a statement that outlines how personal information is collected, used, stored, and shared on a website.
It is a legal requirement for most websites to have a privacy policy in order to protect the privacy of their visitors!
The privacy policy will typically detail the types of personal information collected, such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, and browsing data. It will also explain how this information is collected, whether it is through cookies, web forms, or other means.
When is a privacy policy required?
In general, if a website or online service collects any personal information from its users, it should have a privacy policy that informs users of what information is being collected, how it is being used, and with whom it is being shared.
The privacy policy should also provide information on how users can access, modify, or delete their personal information, and should outline any security measures that are in place to protect that information.
I know that sounds very legal-ish, so here are some basic examples of common website elements that would require a privacy policy:
- A contact form that asks for someone’s name, email address or phone number
- Using tracking technologies such as cookies or pixels to collect data on website visitors
- An email newsletter opt-in form that asks for someone’s name and email address in order to subscribe
- Integrating with any third-party services or social media platforms that collect user data

Now that we’ve established what a Privacy Policy is and why it’s necessary – you’re probably wondering how you actually get one!
An obvious option is to work directly with a lawyer to draft these. That can be quite expensive though. You’ll also need to follow up with your lawyer since laws can change over time, and your policy will need to be updated as a result.
